When I first came to the Netherlands, there was hardly anywhere you could get real Mexican ingredients. That meant that every time I came back from Mexico, I brought a suitcase full of food.
That has changed. Today you can even find Mexican products in regular supermarkets. Here is what you can find in the shops. Note that ranges change, so check the shelves or the online shop before you go.
Mexican products at Albert Heijn
Probably the supermarket with the most Mexican products. A few years ago they started stocking a Mexican brand: La Morena. It is a brand you also find in Mexico, with products such as sauces, beans, chilies and corn tortillas.

Mexican products at Jumbo
Here you find products from the brand Antica Cantina. I had never heard of it in Mexico, but the taste is good. They also have sauces, beans and tortillas.

Jumbo has also recently started selling La Costeña products, which are made in Mexico.

Mexican products at Picnic
The online supermarket also has Mexican products. Last year they started importing a well-known Mexican brand: La Costeña. More recently they also added La Morena products, such as sauces, beans, chilies and corn tortillas!
Mexican products at Hanos
If you have a business, you can get access to Hanos. This wholesaler has the largest range of Mexican products: corn tortillas, sauces, chilies, mole and spices.
What about hard-shell tacos?
I’m sorry to disappoint you, but tacos are not hard. They are made with a soft tortilla. The hard tacos you know are Tex-Mex. So if you go to Mexico and order tacos, you get them in a soft, tasty corn tortilla.
